Work

Paul commands us to:
-Work quietly and sincerely as to the Lrd, not men;
-Provide for ourselves;
-Mind our own business;
-Work hard so we can share with the needy;
-Shun and rebuke Christians who don’t provide for themselves.

Paul says we will receive back from the Lrd the good things we have done in our work.

How and Why To Work

1 Thessalonians 4

Paul urges us to:
-Live a quiet lifestyle
-Mind our own business
-Work with our hands.

1Th. 4:9-12 But concerning brotherly love you have no need to write to you. For you yourselves are Gd-taught to love one another. For indeed you do it toward all the brothers who are in all Macedonia. And we urge you, brothers, to abound more and more and to earnestly strive to keep quiet and to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we commanded you, that you may walk honorably toward those outside and may have need of nothing.

2 Thessalonians 3

Paul commands us to:
-Provide for ourselves
-Work quietly
-Not meddle in other peoples’ business
-Shun and rebuke Christians who don’t provide for themselves.

2Th. 3:6-15 And we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lrd Jsus Chrst, that you withdraw yourselves from every brother who walks undutifully and not according to the tradition that they received from us. For you yourselves know how it is necessary to imitate us, because we were not undutiful among you. Neither did we eat bread from anyone for free, but with exertion and hardship, working night and day, in order not to burden any of you. Not because we don’t have permission, but that we might give ourselves to you as a model to imitate us. For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: “If anyone doesn’t want to work, neither let him eat.” For we hear some are walking among you undutifully, not working at all, but are meddling around. And to such ones we command and require in the Lrd Jsus Chrst that working with quietness they eat their own bread. And you, brothers, do not neglect doing good. And if anyone does not obey our word by this letter, take note of this one not to associate with him in order that he may feel shame. And do not regard as an enemy, but rebuke as a brother.

Ephesians 6, Colossians 3

Paul instructs us to work sincerely as to the Lrd, not men.

Paul says we will receive back from the Lrd the good things we have done in our work.

Eph. 6:5-8 Slaves, obey your masters according to the flesh with fear and trembling with the sincerity of your heart as to Chrst, not with eye-service as men-pleasers but as slaves of Chrst, doing the will of Gd from the soul, serving with goodwill as to the Lrd and not to men, knowing that whatever good thing each one does, he will receive this back from the Lrd, whether slave or free.

Col. 3:22-24 Slaves, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eye-service as men-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lrd. Whatever you do, work from your soul as to the Lrd and not to men, knowing that from the Lrd you will receive the repayment of the inheritance. Serve the Lrd Chrst.

Ephesians 4

Paul instructs us to work hard so we can share with the needy.

Eph. 4:28 He who steals, let him steal no more. But rather let him work hard, working with his hands that which is good, that he may have to share with him who has need.

Paul Working Hard

1 Corinthians 4

Paul and his companions worked hard with manual labor.

1Cor. 4:12 And we work hard, working with our own hands. Being meanly criticized, we bless. Being persecuted, we endure.
